DRONE BUYING GUIDE

Find the right drone for how you fly.

Start with your experience level and how you plan to use your drone. Then compare camera quality, stabilization, flight time, range, weight and controller options.

01

Skill level

New pilots should prioritize intuitive controls, stable hovering and helpful features such as GPS return or obstacle detection where available.

02

Camera & stabilization

Compare resolution, electronic stabilization and mechanical gimbals. A 3-axis gimbal generally provides the strongest stabilization for aerial video.

03

Flight time

Compare the rated flight time per battery—not the combined time of a multi-battery bundle. Spare batteries can extend the overall flying session.

04

Flight range

Choose a practical range for where you expect to fly. A longer advertised range is not automatically necessary for every pilot.

05

Weight and portability

Lighter drones are easier to carry and weight may affect applicable operating requirements. Always check current Canadian guidance before flying.

06

Controller and safety

Compare phone-based and screen-equipped controllers along with GPS return, obstacle avoidance and wind-resistance features.

Drone regulations and operating requirements can change. Verify current Transport Canada guidance before flying.
